Review of the Hama Miami 200 Camera Trolley
Today I’m reviewing the Hama Miami 200 Camera Trolley – Black from www.lovecases.co.uk. The “camera trolley” which looks like the perfect sized carry-on hand luggage case arrived very quickly by courier in a protective brown box. Perfect timing for me as I was off to photograph a 70th birthday party that weekend, so I quickly transferred all my camera gear into it to test it out.
First impressions were good. It was light, but well made. Strong zips and plenty of compartments for equipment. My two DSLRs both fitted in with lenses on, plus a flash gun, extra lens and video light. I slipped my macbook into the handy front pocket which had an elasticated strap to hold it in place (nice touch).
Some battery chargers and leads fitted into the pouch pocket on the front. It’s size of 33 x 26 x 55cm means it should be accepted as carry-on luggage with most airlines.
Inside the main compartment you have 7 removable interior padded dividers which can totally removed or just partly removed to suit your equipment. The only slight issues I had with the main compartment is that the metal handle that you use to pull the trolley along encroaches into the compartment, reducing the amount of camera gear you can put in. With all my kit in it, this meant the mesh lid wouldn’t close over it. But this wasn’t a major issue and my cameras are bigger than average as one has a battery pack on the bottom. Even with this, my gear fitted neatly in the bag.
Inside the front of the bag are a couple of great mesh pockets, ideal for chargers or extra memory cards.
The camera trolley is nice and light compared to some others on the market. On the back is another zipped pocket containing two straps which can easily be clipped to rings on the outside, turning the bag into a back-pack. The back pocket is held open by a handy piece of Velcro. I tried this and was surprised at how comfortable it was the carry on my back, although I should imagine most of the time it will be used like a trolley, it’s good to have an alternative option.
On the side of the bag are two outer mesh pockets. Perfect for a tripod to be clipped to the outside of the bag or they could be used for easy access to a spare lens without having to open the bag.
To summarise – a great, very reasonably priced (£69.99) camera bag for a professional or keen amateur photographer. Especially good for a traveller or wedding photographer that doesn’t want to have carry heavy equipment over his/her shoulders. Overall the quality of the bag is good. Even when full of heavy camera gear I didn’t worry that it was going to split open or one of the zips fail. Good stitching throughout means it should last for years. It comes with 12months warranty anyway. For this case any many other camera cases have a look on www.lovecases.co.uk
